Tabla

The tabla, consisting of a metal drum called the bayan and a wooden drum called the dayan, are one of the most popular Indian percussion instruments. The tabla are a beautiful instrument with a seemingly endless vocabulary of sounds. The tabla are the main percussion instrument featured in North Indian Hindustani music and can also be heard in rock, fusion, movie scores, and western pop songs.
